What is Oracle GoldenGate?


It is an application that provides real-time data integration, data replication, transactional change data capture, data transformations, high availability solutions, and verification between operational and analytical enterprise systems.With Oracle GoldenGate, you can move committed transactions across multiple systems in your enterprise over a secure or non-secure configuration.
It supports a wide range of databases and data sources, providing replication between same types or between heterogeneous databases. For example, you could replicate between an Oracle Autonomous Database instance and an Oracle Database instance, or between two Oracle Database instances set up as source and target, or a two-way replication between MySQL database and Oracle Database instances. In addition, you can replicate to Java Messaging Queues, flat files, and to Big Data in combination with Oracle GoldenGate for Big Data.

When Do You Use Oracle GoldenGate?


Oracle GoldenGate fulfills a wide range of data movement needs. Some of the most common use cases include:

Business Continuity and High Availability

Business continuity refers to an enterprise's capability to maintain its functions and services without any operational interruptions. High availability ensures the highest level of fault tolerance. To achieve business continuity, systems are designed with multiple servers, storage solutions, and data centers, ensuring high availability that effectively supports uninterrupted operations.

Initial Load and Database Migration

The initial load process involves extracting data records from a source database and loading them into a target database. This is a one-time data migration process. Oracle GoldenGate enables initial load migrations without requiring system downtime.

Data Integration

Data integration is the process of combining data from multiple diverse sources, stored using different technologies, to create a unified view. Oracle GoldenGate facilitates real-time data integration.
